Core Functions of Volunteer Centres Brokerage:
- Volunteer Centres primary function is to match both individuals and groups interested in volunteering with appropriate opportunities in the local community.
- Marketing volunteering: VCs stimulate and encourage local interest in volunteering and community activity.
- Good practice development:
VCs promote good practice including training and accreditation in working with volunteers to all volunteer involving
organisations.
- Develop volunteering opportunities:
VCs work in close partnership with statutory, voluntary and
private sector agencies as well as community groups and faith groups to develop local volunteering opportunities.
- Policy response and campaigning: VCs identify proposals or legislation that may impact on volunteering. They will lead and/or participate in campaigns on issues that affect volunteers or volunteering. VCs will campaign pro-actively for a more volunteer-literate and volunteer-friendly climate.
- Strategic development of volunteering: As the local experts on volunteering, VCs inform strategic thinking and planning at a regional and national level.

Ilfracombe Direct Services: Wheel-chair loan scheme,
Children's safety equipment loan scheme, Befriending, dog walking, wheel-chair escorting, Reception volunteering.
Ilfracombe and District Community Transport Partnership.
This operates from our Ilfracombe Centre and is managed by NDVS. It consists of a Volunteer Driver Scheme plus Ring and Ride and Minibus Hire. Contact Tim Lamerton at 01271 855951 for details and for all your Community Transport needs
Resource Centres in Ilfracombe and Barnstaple
Both our Centres are fully equipped to assist volunteers and
voluntary organisations with: photocopying, internet access, and other administrative needs. Our Centres in Ilfracombe and Barnstaple are open as follows: Mon, Tue, Thurs and Fri. 10.00am to 1.00pm and 2.00pm to 4.00pm.
