Parent Carers Voice

Parent Carers’ Voice is a way for parent and carers to influence the way services for their children are planned and delivered in Devon.
Parent Carers’ Voice acts as a consultative mechanism between parents and carers of children with special needs and the services their children receive.

The forums are attended by parents / carers who share the common aim of improving the services children receive. They all have children with some form of special need. They meet every 2 months to discuss issues relevant to their children. These may be connected with health, education or the care and support they receive, and where there are areas of particular concern, they invite the appropriate professional to listen to their views and look for a solution. Sometimes they will be asked for our opinion on a particular service or the development of a new one.

There are 6 local forum groups meeting across Devon, which are facilitated by development workers based at Torridge CVS, Exeter CVS and the South Hams CVS.

Parent Carers’ Voice is supported by Devon Association of Councils for Voluntary Service (DACVS). DACVS was awarded the contract to support and develop the work of Local and County Forums for parent and carers of children with special needs known as Parent Carers’ Voice. Torridge Voluntary Services is the lead agency delivering this contract.
